First clean with a solvent such as alcohol, ensuring the painting as possible. Use a wire brush to get what you can not go out with a rag. Then wash the brush thoroughly with warm soapy water (Dawn dishwashing liquid is fine, if he) by the oil. Flat and dry. There are certain limitations to brush, but do not seem better. There really is no perfect way to clean, they seem to be worn or stiffness over time.

Soak in Turpin and with soap. That's what I took with my brush for some time.
